BATON ROUGE, La. — May 22, 2025 — The Louisiana Optical Network Infrastructure (LONI), the state’s premier research and education network, has released its new 5-Year Strategic Plan—laying out a bold vision to advance cyberinfrastructure in support of Louisiana’s academic, research, and public-sector communities.
Developed through months of collaborative engagement, the plan reflects a unified vision shaped by the LONI Strategic Planning Committee, LONI staff, Louisiana State University Information Technology Services (LSU ITS), and the Louisiana Board of Regents. It is designed to address the evolving needs of higher education and research institutions while reinforcing LONI’s role as a driver of innovation, connectivity, and public service statewide.
“This milestone marks a pivotal moment in LONI’s growth,” said Lonnie Leger, Executive Director of LONI. “With this plan, we are not only reaffirming our commitment to delivering high-performance networking and advanced services—we’re also building a forward-looking framework that anticipates the demands of tomorrow’s research and learning ecosystems.”
The strategic plan outlines key priorities, including the expansion of world-class broadband infrastructure, increased access to high-performance computing, and deeper statewide and national collaboration. It also affirms LONI’s core mission: supporting digital equity and fostering innovation for all Louisianians.
“This roadmap is the result of deep collaboration and shared purpose,” Leger added. “We are incredibly grateful to our member institutions and partners for their time, insights, and continued trust in LONI’s mission.”
As LONI begins implementation of the plan, member organizations will be invited to participate in upcoming workgroups, strategic discussions, and the annual LONI Summit.
